We’ve opened our fifteenth charity shop in Greater Manchester!

Our Trading Company has added a new shop to its portfolio of fourteen high street and online outlets by opening a brand new shop on Stockport Road in Ardwick.

The specialist furniture shop will sell a range of new and pre-loved furniture items, electrical goods, white goods and homeware. The shop will be offering 10% discount for students on donated items.

Our furniture shop in Ladybarn is always incredibly popular, especially with students and landlords, and so we’re really excited to open this shop in Ardwick where it is surrounded by a great local community. All our shops are really busy community hubs – so busy in fact that we really need some extra support from willing volunteers! We need volunteer drivers, drivers mate and shop assistants to help us out. It’s vital we recruit volunteers so that we can provide our services, and there’s such a wide range of roles for people to support us with we’re hoping there’s something that will appeal to everyone. We need help with everything from serving customers to collecting and delivering furniture and also help with our newly launched house clearance service. We give full training and support, and we’d be keen to hear from anyone aged 16 and over who thinks they might be able to help out – even for a few hours a week. Every small contribution makes a huge difference to our patients. Our house clearance service is proving really popular, so if you are moving, downsizing, or just have a garage or unit that you want help clearing, we can support you with that as well. We’re urging as many people as possible who may have items to donate to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.

Donate your unwanted Christmas gifts to raise money

We’re asking people to consider donating any unwanted Christmas gifts this year to help people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Local people can drop off any new and unused bottles, gift sets, chocolates, items of clothing, or other unwanted presents to our hospice sites this January.

Donations can be dropped into the basket provided at the hospice sites in either St Ann’s Road North, Heald Green, or in Meadowsweet Lane (off Peel Lane), in Little Hulton, or can be taken to any of the hospice’s fourteen charity shops (locations can be found at moyacole.org.uk/shop).

Everyone has had a gift that they’ve received for Christmas that either doesn’t fit properly, or is simply put into a cupboard after the festive season and left to gather dust. We’d love to help local people feel better about that, whilst putting the items to good use too. We can use these gifts in lots of ways, whether that’s in fundraising raffles or fairs, or to be sold in our hospice shops across Greater Manchester or online. The money raised from donated items helps us to care for the thousands of local patients and their families we support each year so please do consider dropping off any unwanted or unloved items.  We’d really appreciate your support.

Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s Hospice

We’re appealing for donations of unwanted furniture to help provide care to patients

Our Trading Company has fourteen shops across Greater Manchester, including a specialist furniture shop in Ladybarn where we sell a range of new and pre-loved furniture items, electrical goods and homeware.

Our furniture shop in Ladybarn is always incredibly popular, but especially in recent weeks when students and landlords have been purchasing new and pre-owned items to get their houses ready for the new term. It’s amazing that the shop is so popular, but as you can imagine it means that we’re in need of even more items we can sell there.  We’re appealing for donations of any items of furniture, and can arrange to pick them up if they’re too bulky for donors to move themselves. The money raised from the sale of the furniture helps the hospice to support local patients and their families, so as well as clearing space in your house, any donations really do make a difference to the lives of local people. We have recently launched a house clearance service too, so if you are moving, downsizing, or just have a garage or unit that you want help clearing, we can support you with that as well.  We’re urging as many people as possible who may have items to donate to get in touch.  We’d love to hear from you.

Have you got a passion for fashion?

We are inviting local people with a passion for fashion to two very special fashion events, helping you to prepare for the Autumn/Winter season in style.

Our first Winter Glam fashion show will be held on 19 October at Romiley Golf Club, with the second taking place on 9th November at Gatley Golf Club.  Both events start at 6pm.

From deals on heels to glitz and glam, the fashion shows will be raising money for St Ann’s, with tickets costing £6 each, including a free glass of wine or soft drink.

Our shops are renowned locally for the amazing finds that people can get their hands on there – whether new, designer, vintage or pre-loved outfits. These events are timed perfectly for people who want to refresh their wardrobe for the new season, or treat themselves to something special for the forthcoming festive parties.

As well as being a great night out, the money raised at the events helps St Ann’s Hospice to continue caring for local patients, so everyone wins. We’d love as many local people as possible to come along and join us.

Amanda Brooks- Head of Trading

To buy tickets please contact the St Ann’s Romiley shop (23 Compstall Road, Romiley, Stockport SK6 4BT), our Heald Green shop (230 Finney Lane, Heald Green, Stockport, SK8 3QA), or Romiley or Gatley Golf Clubs.

We’re appealing for help from digitally-savvy volunteers happy to donate time to help out with our online shops

customer shopping online

We’re appealing for local people to help grow the income from our eBay and Amazon shops, by volunteering a few hours a week at our distribution centre on Bankfield Industrial Estate in South Reddish.

The volunteers would be required to help with everything from researching a wide variety of items from antiques to video games, marketing them for sale in the online outlets, photographing products and optimising listings.  They’d also support the team with order fulfilment, including packaging items and managing their dispatch and shipping.

The hospice is a charity and we simply couldn’t continue caring for the thousands of local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses we support without donations, including those raised by our online and offline shops. We’re really keen to hear from anyone who is digitally focussed who might be happy to donate a few hours of their time to support our busy team. This may be a role for someone looking to gain work experience in sales, marketing, online retail, business or stock management, and will be really varied. We’re a friendly, dynamic team – and we can promise that no two days will be the same! We have to raise £20,000 a day to ensure the hospice can keep its doors open for patients, and the Trading Company activity plays a really important part in helping us to achieve that.  The eBay shop income has increased by 400% in recent months, and we’re really excited to work with a local volunteer who might be able to help us grow this even further.  Every penny really does help us to care for local patients.

We’re putting out an urgent appeal for volunteers to support staff in our shops across Greater Manchester

We’re asking local people to consider donating just a few hours of their time each week to help shop staff raise vital funds to support local patients.

Our shops generate thousands of pounds worth of income every year for St Ann’s – income which enables us to continue to provide care to local patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

We have 14 shops across Greater Manchester and they are really busy community hubs – so busy in fact that we really need some extra support from willing volunteers! The role of a charity shop volunteer has really changed in recent years, and we see people of all ages who come to us and really benefit from, and enjoy, the experience. It’s vital we recruit more volunteers so that we can continue to provide our services, and there’s such a wide range of roles for people to support us with we’re hoping there’s something that will appeal to everyone.  We need help with everything from window displays and merchandising to serving customers, organising books and DVDs, and collecting and delivering furniture.

Amanda Brooks, Trading Company Manager

St Ann’s has to raise around £20,000 every day to keep the doors open, and we simply couldn’t do it without our army of loyal volunteers.  We have people who support us for a variety of reasons, some are job seekers looking to build their CV, others are retired people who are looking for a new challenge, and we also work with students who are helping broaden their skillset too. We give full training and support, and we’d be keen to hear from anyone aged 16 and over who thinks they might be able to help out – even for a few hours a week.  Every small contribution makes a huge difference to our patients.

We’ve launched a new range of wedding favours giving guests the chance to win

Weddings are happy occasions, creating long-lasting memories as two people and their loved ones are joined together on one of the most important days of their life.

With wedding season fast approaching, we’re appealing to brides and grooms to consider making an additional long-lasting gift on their big day which will help them create special memories for local people too.

We have launched a new range of wedding and party favours, each containing a special ticket offering each guest the chance to win up to £2000 in the charity’s fundraising lottery.

Trudi Ogden, lottery manager, explained:  “The St Ann’s Local Lottery has been running for more than two decades, and we’re really excited that our newly designed favours offer a unique way for brides and grooms or party hosts to treat their guests.  Most importantly, the money paid for the favours makes a real difference to the lives of the local patients the hospice cares for.

“The favours cost just £1.50 each, and come in a range of classic designs.  Each has a unique lottery number included, which is then entered into one of our weekly St Ann’s Local Lottery draws.

“Each week, winners of the lottery receive prizes worth £2,500, and our main jackpot each Friday is £2000. So, by purchasing tickets in the form of our wedding or party favours, not only do local patients and their families definitely win, you never know, one of your guests might win too!”

Trudi added:  “St Ann’s has been providing care to hospice patients for almost half a century and can only do so thanks to the kind generosity of local people.

“We know that our supporters like to help our patients in lots of different ways, whether that’s visiting our shops, taking part in fundraising events, or playing our lottery.  It’s important to us that we continue to provide as many ways as possible for people to support us in caring for our patients, and these latest favours are just one of the new ways people can do just that.  We’re really excited to be able to play even a small part in someone’s big day.”

We also have our own specialist wedding shop on the High Street in Cheadle, complete with a range of new, pre-loved and vintage wedding and bridesmaid dresses, as well as hats, shoes and other accessories.

Uncover hidden treasures in our online shops

Ryan Perkins Trading Company Assistant

A blog from Ryan Perkins, Sales Development Manager at St Ann’s

Did you know you can now shop at St Ann’s from the comfort of your own sofa?

The hospice’s online shops came into existence just over a year ago, when we realised that we had a wide variety of valuable donated stock that would achieve higher prices online. Where else could you pick up a vintage Star Trek annual, a Karen Millen dress and an antique skipping rope through one website? And that’s just a small selection of what’s available at the time of writing.

The online department has grown rapidly since John the online manager joined the team, and we’re quickly becoming one of the largest hospice eBay sellers in the UK, with more than 250 items listed. We also have more than 2350 listed on our hospice Amazon shop page, and these are continually changing and increasing.

High street retail continues to be a challenging arena and it is vital to the future of St Ann’s Hospice that we ensure we’re giving all customers what they want – even if they would rather make more direct purchases online and via their smartphones, and never step foot into our traditional brick and mortar locations.

The online department is run from our warehouse in Reddish selling donated items, or items that come from the house clearance team. Items are sorted at the shops, and all staff and volunteers are trained to recognise rare and valuable items.

These items are then sent to the online department to be photographed and listed. New items are constantly added and selling online allows St Ann’s Hospice to sell 24 hours a day, seven days a week to a worldwide audience.
