Wanted – Furniture Donations

We have shops across Greater Manchester, including our specialist furniture shops in Ardwick and Ladybarn where we sells  range of new and pre-loved furniture items, electrical goods and homeware.

Our furniture shops are always really popular, especially in the last year when many people have been taking the opportunity to decorate or update their home during lockdown.

We have a huge amount of furniture and homewares on sale, and are appealing for donations of any items of furniture that people might be wanting to rehome.  We can arrange to pick them up if they’re bulky too, so do get in touch even if you don’t have a vehicle available to drop items at one of our shops.

We also run a popular house clearance service so if local people are moving, downsizing or have a garage or other unit that they need help clearing, we can support with that too. We’re always happy to help, and people can also be assured that the money raised from the sale of the items they donate will help St Ann’s continue caring for local patients.

Distribution Sale this September

We’re inviting deal-lovers to visit our Distribution Centre in Reddish on Saturday 18th September to get their hands on some of the hundreds of new and pre-loved items up for sale.

Our centre in Reddish is a bit of a treasure trove to be honest, and it’s packed full of everything from ladies wear and accessories to toys, games, electrical goods and homeware. There really is something for everyone.
Since our shops have reopened post-lockdown we’ve had some amazing stock donated, including lots of new goods from generous supporters. Some we sell in our shops, some on our online stores, and we’ve also decided to save some of the best bargains for our Distribution Centre sale in September.
Shoppers will not only be able to get their hands on some great deals, but the money they pay will also help St Ann’s to care for hospice patients from across Greater Manchester.
As a charity we need to raise £20,000 a day to keep our services running for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, so sales like this one, alongside those made in our shops, are invaluable.  They really do help us make a huge difference to local people’s lives.

Volunteer with St Ann’s!

Following a huge increase in customer numbers after the easing of lockdown restrictions, we’re putting out an urgent appeal for volunteers to support staff in our online sales team and shops across Greater Manchester.

St Ann’s is asking local people to consider donating just a few hours of their time each week to help shop staff raise vital funds to support local patients.

Amanda Brooks, Head of the St Ann’s Trading Company, said: “It’s fantastic that customers are embracing their new freedoms by coming to purchase new and pre-loved goods at our covid-safe shops.

“As a result of the fabulous increase in footfall, it’s vital we recruit more volunteers as soon as possible to support our team.  There’s such a wide range of volunteering roles available, and we’re hoping there’s something that will appeal to everyone.

“We need help with everything from window displays and merchandising to serving customers, steaming clothes and organising books.  We’re also keen to hear from anyone who might be able to assist with weekend support in our new bridal boutique in Stockport.

“Our online sales team and staff at our distribution centre in Reddish are also looking for support from people who could help with photography, posting and packing, and sorting goods for our shops too.”

Our shops generate thousands of pounds worth of income every year for St Ann’s – income which enables our hospices to continue to provide care to local patients with cancer and other life- limiting illnesses.

Amanda added: “The role of a charity shop volunteer has really changed in recent years, and we see people of all ages who come to us and really benefit from, and enjoy, the experience.

“St Ann’s has to raise around £20,000 every day to keep the doors open, and we simply couldn’t do it without our army of loyal volunteers.  We have people who support us for a variety of reasons, some are job seekers looking to build their CV, others are retired people who are looking for a new challenge, and we also work with students who are helping broaden their skillset too.

“We give full training and support, and we’d be keen to hear from anyone aged 16 and over who thinks they might be able to help out – even for a few hours a week.  Every small contribution makes a huge difference to our patients.”

Anyone interested in supporting our hospice can call 0161 477 7839 from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday, pop into their local hospice shop and ask for details or fill in a form online.

St Ann’s Bridal Boutique

Christina Green shop manager

With the easing of government restrictions, a wave of brides and grooms are preparing to finally celebrate their big day – with many choosing to bag a bargain outfit at a fraction of the usual price at our new Stockport shop’s bridal boutique.

Our brand new bridal boutique on Great Underbank in Stockport centre has seen an influx of enquiries from brides to be, all keen to get their hands on one of the brand new, designer, preloved, or vintage dresses in store.

Christina Green, the shop manager, said: “People seem to be hearing about us from friends and family, and it’s amazing that so many are getting in touch already.  There’s something for everyone to be honest, as we get a whole range of new and designer dresses donated regularly from bridal shops around the region, as well as having a huge range of vintage and pre-loved dresses too.

“We offer a covid-safe appointment service and make the visit really special for the bride, and I think the fact that the purchase they make is also helping support hospice patients makes a real difference to lots of them too.

“The pandemic has made lots of people think about what’s important, and many people want to help others I think.”

The boutique has been relocated from the shop on High Street in Cheadle, to create more space for the number of dresses available, and meet the increased demand from customers.

As well as hundreds of dresses, our Stockport store also has a range of other bridal accessories, such as hair accessories, bridesmaid outfits, and shoes.

Alongside the bridal section upstairs, we offer a range of vintage items for sale, as well as hosting a specialist book shop.

By shopping with St Ann’s you’ll be helping to raise vital funds that enable our teams to continue providing care and support to our patients and their loved ones in the Greater Manchester community.
