Moya Cole Hospice and Molly Lou Home Fragrance launch another candle

Moya Cole Hospice has once again teamed up with Molly Lou Home Fragrance to release another candle which will make a perfect gift for a loved one this Mother’s Day.

The hospice previously teamed up with Molly Lou Home Fragrances to release a Mandarin and Sandalwood fragranced candle shortly before Christmas, which has proved popular and almost sold out

This new candle, developed once again with our complementary therapists, features a balanced fragrance combining bergamot and patchouli.

According to Molly Lou Home Fragrance, the “bergamot provides a light citrus top note, commonly used in fragrance to add freshness and brightness. Patchouli forms the base note, offering a deeper, earthy and slightly woody aroma that helps create a longer-lasting scent in the room.”

As the candle burns, the citrus notes appear first before gradually blending with the richer patchouli base. The result is a well-rounded fragrance that is fresh without being sharp and warm without being overpowering.

The scent was chosen to reflect the calming, comforting environment the hospice creates for patients and families every day.

The candle may be purchased via the Moya Cole Hospice online shop and in our selected charity shops across Greater Manchester, including Edgeley, Romiley, Stockport, Heald Green and Altrincham. It will also be available in our hospice receptions in Heald Green and Little Hulton. Last orders for the online shop for delivery by Mother’s Day is Thursday at 1pm for standard delivery, and Friday at 1pm for tracked 24-hour delivery.

You can receive 10% off your first order in our online store by using this discount code: MOYAWELCOME10.

The first scent is no longer available in shops but still features in our online store, and in our hospice receptions.

Elvis is in the building!

Elvis was in the building as Moya Cole Hospice patients and loved ones were treated to a live performance by a tribute act.

Elvis tribute act, Andy Reno was on hand to once again entertain the patients at Moya Cole Hospice with his rendition of some of Presley’s greatest hits.

According to Andy’s website, he has been a fan of Elvis Presley ever since watching Jailhouse Rock as a kid.

He was amazed by Elvis’s looks, charisma, and fantastic voice. After singing Elvis songs for friends they encouraged Andy to become an Elvis Tribute Artist.

Because of Elvis Andy has learned to sing and play the guitar.

He has gained critical acclaim from Elvis’s personal friends, fellow Elvis Tributes and Elvis fans.

Those in attendance at the event in the Moya Cole Hospice Being You Centre enjoyed the concert, with many singing and dancing along with Elvis. Staff even joined in on a conga line!

Samantha Lanigan, Community Fundraiser at Moya Cole Hospice commented.

“Seeing Elvis light up the Being You Centre was a truly special occasion. It was wonderful seeing our patients sing and dance along to some Elvis classics. The King was truly taking care of business!”

Moya Cole Hospice is recruiting for three new volunteer fundraising committees

The Fundraising Team at Moya Cole Hospice are looking to recruit members for three new volunteer fundraising committees.

These committees will be based in Didsbury and Chorlton, the Heatons and Reddish, and Marple and Romiley.

It follows the success of their already established Heald Green, Altrincham, and Little Hulton committees.

Community Fundraiser for Moya Cole Hospice, Samantha Lanigan commented.

“Being a part of one of our volunteer fundraising committees is a unique opportunity as you can directly help patients and families in our care through the organisation of various events to raise funds for the hospice.

Committee members from Heald Green, Altrincham, and Little Hulton have done such an incredible job fundraising for the hospice. It’s lovely to see their passion and love of the hospice develop through their volunteer work

Samantha Lanigan, Community Fundraiser, Moya Cole Hospice

Committees typically meet once a month to discuss various fundraising ideas. The Altincham committee typically host one big event a year and two smaller ones. Their Frocks and Fizz event last year raised over £7,000 for the hospice.

Gwyneth Roper, a member of the Altrincham committee said it was her proudest moment since joining approximately 18 months ago.

“It was such a joy… meeting the other people through the committee and being able to share that with them,” she said.

I get a lot out of being a part of the committee, and a lot of that is down to the people I’ve met. I used to work at the hospice, and now I’ve got involved in fundraising. I know the difference fundraising makes to the patients

Gwyneth Roper, Altrincham Volunteer Fundraising Committee Member

Rekha Senapati has been a volunteer for Moya Cole Hospice for 15 years, she was later asked to join the Little Hulton Volunteer Fundraising Committee.

“Being a part of the committee has allowed me to learn more about new ideas, views and thoughts which I have found very interesting,” Rekha said.

Lynn Partridge joined the Heald Green Volunteer Fundraising Committee as she experienced the care her dad and auntie received at the hospice.

“The hospice gives such comfort, dignity and kindness to people and I wanted to do something that helped towards making sure other families can experience this.

I really look forward to coming together as a group and working together. I’ve got a lot of friendship from the group. We have a lot in common because most of us have had a family member in the hospice, so there’s a lot of shared experiences

Lynn Partridge, Heald Green Volunteer Fundraising Committee

Gift in Wills event has been postponed

Moya Cole Hospice will be holding a free Gift in Wills event at the Corpaq Stadium in Salford in March. This event has now been postponed to a future date

The informational event will discuss how to leave a gift in your Will to the hospice. It will also provide an opportunity to hear updates about the hospice, the care and services we provide, and our plans for the future.

The huge impact of leaving a gift in your Will has for the hospice will also be discussed, and IMD Solicitors will speak about how easy it is to make a Will and leave that special gift.

Breakfast refreshments will be provided and those in attendance will have the opportunity to speak to clinical and non-clinical staff from the hospice and ask any questions.

This event is generously sponsored by IMD Solicitors.

Philanthropy Lead at Moya Cole Hospice, Heather Bennett said: “Legacy and in-memory donations account for around third of all donations to Moya Cole Hospice, and contribute significantly towards the care we provide to those with life limiting illnesses; helping fund the costs of day therapy services, Hospice @ Home services and so much more.

Quite often the Wills that tend to hit the headlines seem to be huge amounts or something really ‘interesting’ or a really unique item someone has left as part of a collection but the fact is, the vast majority of gifts from Wills that we receive aren’t huge but together these gifts make a huge difference to the care we can provide our patients and their loved ones

Heather Bennett, Philanthropy Lead, Moya Cole Hospice

“Even 1% of somebody’s Will can make a massive difference for the hospice, leaving 99% for their loved ones,” she said.

The Gifts in Will event will take place on March 21st from 11am to 1pm. Suggested arrival time is 10.30am. To register for the free event, click here and fill out the form attached to the webpage.

Labour MP Michael Wheeler visits Moya Cole Hospice

Michael Wheeler MP paid a visit to Moya Cole Hospice on Friday morning, where he met with hospice officials and was given a guided tour of the Little Hulton facility.

The Labour MP for Worsley and Eccles spoke with Chief Executive of Moya Cole Hospice, Rachel McMillan, Director of People, Culture and Support Services, Gill Turnpenney, Director of Finance & Business Development, and Alison Roberts, Consultant in Palliative Medicine.

It was an absolute pleasure visiting Moya Cole Hospice. It was really informative to talk with the staff, look around, and understand the services they provide to our local community and beyond. I think what they do here is something really special, something we should treasure, and, as a local MP, something I will support to ensure it is preserved for the future

Michael Wheeler , MP for Worsley and Eccles

The MP was talked through the work that Moya Cole Hospice in Little Hulton conducts, from caring for patients on the inpatient unit, providing outpatient services through the Being You Centre, supporting those with Lymphoedema, supporting families and loved ones, and so much more.

It was wonderful speaking with Michael this morning and we thank him for allowing us time to showcase the importance of hospice care and how vital it is to our community. The whole hospice sector is facing difficult challenges ahead in terms of funding, so it is warming to see Michael’s support for end-of-life care
