Job Summary

We’re looking for an organised and professional Ward Clerk to join our Clinical Services Administration Team, providing administrative support to the inpatient unit at our Heald Green site, with occasional cross-site working at Little Hulton.

You’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of specialist palliative care, helping to ensure patients, families and clinical teams receive a responsive and high-quality service.

The Role

You will provide a comprehensive clerical and administrative service to support inpatient clinical services, working closely with clinical and medical colleagues as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting admissions, discharges and patient flow using the electronic patient record system
  • Acting as a point of contact for patients, carers and external agencies, ensuring effective communication at all times
  • Providing a wide range of administrative support including documentation, correspondence and data management
  • Working collaboratively with the Inpatient Clinical Administrator and wider cross-site admin team, providing cover and support as required
  • Supporting processes relating to patient care, including end-of-life administration and liaison with relevant stakeholders
  • Organising meetings, preparing agendas and taking accurate minutes where required
  • Managing stock levels and ordering supplies, including stationery and clinical items

The Person

You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities effectively, and confident working both independently and as part of a team. You’ll be a strong communicator who is comfortable liaising with a wide range of people in a sensitive care environment.

You will have:

  • GCSE English (or equivalent)
  • Experience in a similar administrative role within a health or social care setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or relevant practical experience
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic patient record systems (e.g. EMIS)
  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Experience of supporting patient administration processes, including referrals, admissions and discharges
  • Experience of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

The successful candidate will be subject to a DBS Check at the level appropriate to the role, the cost of which is covered by the hospice. Any post holder within the organisation will be expected to undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures.
