It’s an exciting time to join St Ann’s hospice as the construction of our brand new, purpose built hospice progresses at pace, and we’re looking for an empathetic and reliable Catering Assistant to come and play a key role in supporting the delivery of excellent care to our patients.
You’ll be the face of St Ann’s Hospice Catering department, liaising with our patients face to face to understand their food choices and playing an instrumental role in supporting the smooth running of the catering service.

Job summary
To support the work of the Hospice in its provision of specialist palliative care by assisting the catering team to meet the food service aims and objectives.
The Catering Assistant plays a fundamental part in supporting the catering provision by ensuring all requirements for patients, visitors and staff are fully met. The role requires someone who can show sensitivity and empathy as we support our patients and their families whilst in our care.
The Role
- You’ll be the face of St Ann’s Hospice Catering department, liaising with our patients face to face to understand their food choices and playing an instrumental role in supporting the smooth running of the catering service.
- Assisting with the day to day running of the hospice catering operation.
- Liaising directly with patients to help with menu choices.
- Helping with the preparation and cooking of basic food dishes.
- Delivering food and any hospitality to patients, visitors and staff.
- Washing crockery and cutlery in a hygienic manner.
- Ensuring patient confidentially is kept at all times.
- Assisting in the daily upkeep of the food management system.
The Person
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Experience in food preparation.
- Level 2 food hygiene certificate, or willing to train for one.
- Empathetic and understanding towards patients and their families in our care.
- Work well as part of a team in a busy environment.
- Basic computer skills – data entry, email, word documents
