The Giant Walk

Giant Walk poster

Ever fancied ticking a marathon off your bucket list but been put off by the thought of running it? We have teamed up with The Giant Walk to give you the perfect opportunity to walk a marathon.

What is The Giant Walk?

The Giant Walk is a fully supported 42km lowland marathon from Hale in Merseyside to Hale in Cheshire. The route is largely flat with very little incline, making it an achievable yet meaningful endurance challenge.

Whether you’re an experienced marathoner or a first-timer, this is your chance to make a difference.

Walk in memory of a loved one, for a personal challenge, or simply to support the compassionate care we provide at Moya Cole Hospice. Every kilometre you conquer helps us continue to offer essential support to our patients and their families.

Join our team and we will support you every step of the way, making sure that your Marathon journey is one that will stay with you forever.

The Route

It’s along a beautiful, flat waterside route with plenty of rest stops, expert leaders, and a support coach following you throughout the day. The walk is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and confidence‑building, ideal for anyone who wants the achievement of marathon distance without the pressure of pace — all while fundraising for Moya Cole Hospice.

A coach will travel along the route so you can store belongings and access kit, food and water throughout the day. The coach has toilet facilities and will meet walkers at several points. It is also available to transport walkers from the finish back to the start for an additional charge.

For those looking for a shorter option, the 21km Stockton Half begins at the halfway point in Stockton on Heath and completes a half marathon distance in the afternoon. This entry level option is ideal for those new to endurance walking, and teenagers can join from this point.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the 100km in February Challenge?

100km in February is a fundraising challenge for Moya Cole Hospice. Join hundreds of incredible hospice supporters in taking on 100 kilometres in the month of February.  You can complete your  kilometres however you like – run, walk, cycle or swim (or a combination of all four)! The important thing is to get out and get moving to raise funds for those who need us most.

  • How do I get started?

The first thing to do is join our Facebook Group.  Click Join Now and complete the form in the group to register for your free shirt. The group is a great place to meet other amazing fundraisers and get loads of tips and ideas for your challenge.

  • Do I have to be on Facebook to take part?

You can still take part if you aren’t on Facebook by registering with this link and then setting up a JustGiving page. However if you are on Facebook, it really helps us if you fundraise through that platform. We’re a small team and using the platform helps us provide you with more support and it helps us streamline our admin.

  • Do I have to use Facebook Fundraising or can I set-up a JustGiving page?

As the challenge is being run through Facebook we would prefer all participants to fundraise through the Facebook fundraising pages provided as it helps us to easily monitor the event and to minimise costs. However, if you prefer to use JustGiving, please register for the challenge using this link.

  • Is there a minimum fundraising amount?

We have set a sponsorship target of £150 however all we ask is that you set up a fundraising page and do your very best! Your fundraising will go to Moya Cole Hospice to help us to continue to provide our services.

  • Can I be sponsored by someone who is not on Facebook?

If someone would like to donate to your challenge and they don’t use Facebook, the best thing is to collect their donation offline and donate it directly to your fundraiser yourself.  We will also provide paper sponsorship forms when we send out your t-shirt, so that is another option.

  • Can I include my normal daily steps as part of my distance?

Yes! We are happy for you to make the challenge personal to you, so if it makes sense for you to include those steps, we are happy for you to do so.

  • How should I track my kilometres?

It’s completely up to you! There are lots of apps and trackers available or you could go for good old fashioned pen and paper, why not ask others in the Facebook group how they’re tracking their steps?

  • I’m not able to complete 100 kilometres – can I still take part?

Of course! This challenge is for everyone and every kilometre you complete will make a difference, the important thing is getting out and raising vital funds for Moya Cole Hospice.
