Emma swims 100k in a month in aid of Moya Cole Hospice
Emma raised over £1,600 for the hospice
Emma Jones completed a 100k swim challenge over the course of a month in memory of her grandad and to raise funds for Moya Cole Hospice.
She chose the challenge as she was a competitive swimmer when she was younger, and her grandad used to take her to her training sessions.
“It felt right to do the swim challenge. I swam for about five or six days a week during the month. I’d do an hour before work and then an hour after work,” Emma said.
Emma’s grandad was cared for at Moya Cole Hospice during the last week of his life.

“They made him as comfortable as possible, making sure he was pain free. Nothing was ever too much to ask and they always made sure that my dad and my grandmother were fed. Anytime we needed anything for grandad they were there straight away.
“Knowing that the hospice is only partially funded by the NHS, I thought well I’ll do a swim and try and raise as much money as I can for the cause,” Emma said.
For Emma’s last swim, she decided to do it outdoors.
“The weather was nice, so we swam at Hathersage. I only had to do about 3k there. I had a lot of my family and friends there, cheering me on. One of my friends made a big banner. So it was a really nice way to finish off the challenge,” she said.
Emma had to swim approximately 3.2k a day to complete her 100k swim challenge. She raised over £1,600 for the hospice.
