Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Mark Hunter visited Moya Cole Hospice on Friday for a tour of the new facility in Heald Green.

The mayor selected the hospice as his charity of the year alongside Signposts for Carers for the duration of his term.

“It’s amazing to see the new facility,” Mayor Hunter said. “Frankly it bears no resemblance whatsoever to the old facility I was used to seeing when I was member of parliament in this area and also in my personal experience of it 13 years ago.”

The mayor was greeted at the hospice by Rachel McMillan, Chief Executive of Moya Cole Hospice and Emma Dixon, Director of Clinical and Digital Services.

It was wonderful to get the opportunity to show Mayor Hunter around our new facility here in Heald Green. We had a wonderful discussion about all the services that this new building currently offers and can offer in the future. We are so grateful for his continued support and are delighted that he selected us as one of his charities of the year Rachel McMillan, Chief Executive, Moya Cole Hospice

Mayor Hunter said that it isn’t just about the facilities of Moya Cole Hospice, it’s about the care.

“Moya Cole Hospice has a longstanding and proud tradition of the excellent care and support it provides. I’m very impressed by what I’ve seen here today. It’s just great that here in the heart of Stockport, we have these state-of-the-art facilities. We deserve the very best in Stockport in my opinion and having had the chance for a detailed look around today, I am very happy to be able to say to the people of Stockport, we have the best here,” he said.

Speaking from experience, it is very difficult for any of us to come into the hospice knowing full well that it is the final journey for somebody... The hospice provides both the support and the understanding of how that is likely going to happen before, during, and after the process. The counselling and aftercare and so on are so very important to many people as well Mayor Mark Hunter, Mayor of Stockport

Deputy Chief Executive of Stockport Council, Paul Richards, fundraised for both of the mayor’s charities by cycling the length of Great Britain. He raised over £7,000. For more information, click here.
