Emily organising 10k run in memory of her grandfather
There are around 22 people taking part in the run around Stockport/Cheadle
Emily Tilley has organised a 10k run across from Stockport to Hazel Grove in memory of her Grandad Jack who died at the hospice at the beginning of this year.
She wanted to undertake a challenge that had personal meaning and reflected in her Grandad’s interests.
Jack was very passionate about fitness and regularly attended the gym until he was no longer able to. Emily and Jack used to joke that she was “not built for running,” making a running challenge particularly meaningful.
“I considered doing a different fundraiser, such as an afternoon tea or another social event but ultimately I wanted to do something that would push me out of my comfort zone,” Emily said.
The 10K route has been designed around locations that were important to her Grandad, They include the starting point, which was where his original business was located (Fine Print Ltd), a local pub the ‘Three Bears’ the family regularly visited together, the gym where he spent much of his time, and a favourite curry restaurant where Jack and his wife regularly went together.
Emily has already raised £1,050.
As part of the run challenge, Emily, her Mum and her Mum’s best friend that own Neat by Emily Jane, Titian Jones and Walkers Retreat are closing off the carpark and welcoming seven other business owners to sell from their stalls.
I want to do this for the hospice because I felt comfortable and at ease there, which I hadn't expected. Unlike a hospital, the hospice felt warm and welcoming, and I was struck by how much support was offered not only to patients but to families as well Emily Tilley, Moya Cole Hospice Supporter
“My dad and uncle stayed with my Grandad throughout his time at the hospice and were able to sleep over. The hospice staff went out of their way to care for my family, making sure we had meals, breakfast and support while we were there.
There are approximately 22 people taking part in the run made up of family and friends. The run will take place on the 22nd August 2026.
