Derek to return home thanks to care at Moya Cole Hospice
Derek Kelly has been in the care of Moya Cole Hospice for six weeks and has now been allowed to return home
Derek Kelly was an inpatient at Moya Cole Hospice for six weeks, and due to his positive response to treatment, was discharged on Monday.
Derek has been diagnosed with Bile Duct cancer and prior to being admitted to Moya Cole Hospice was found unconscious in his bathroom by his wife, Pamela, due to an infection.
“I don’t know what happened,” Derek said. “I got up at 4am to go to the toilet, and then I woke up here.”
“I was in a bad way, and my family were told that I might not survive,” he added.
However, due to ongoing treatment, Derek has come a long way and is now in a stable enough condition to be discharged so he can go home.
“All I’ve wanted to do is be able to go home. The staff here are amazing, but I’ve been adamant about returning home since I’ve been here. Thanks to the staff, I’m able to do that.
I’m excited but apprehensive about being at home, a lot has had to change. They’ve converted a room downstairs into a sort of hospital room for me. I won’t be able to go upstairs anymore as it is no longer safe Derek Kelly, Moya Cole Hospice In-Patient
