Local author Becky Fleetwood hosts book signing in aid of Moya Cole Hospice
Becky Fleetwood hosted the book sale at the new Waterstones shop in John Lewis in Cheadle
Local author, Becky Fleetwood, ran a charity book signing event at the new Waterstones in John Lewis, Cheadle, on Saturday, October 4th, in support of Moya Cole Hospice.
Becky donated £2 to the hospice for every copy sold of her new novel, Dancing Fools and All That Jazz. The 68-year-old Cheadle resident also had collection tins and online donation links for those just browsing. Over £60 was raised at the event.
The event was, forgive the pun, a novel way to raise funds for the hospice. I wore a volunteer t-shirt so everyone could see the new name and had many conversations with shoppers about the rebranding and the work of the hospice. People were so supportive and happy to give to this brilliant cause Becky Fleetwood, Author and Moya Cole Hospice Supporter
Becky has left a few signed copies in store if you missed the event. She has also donated a copy to the Moya Cole Hospice library.
Becky has lived in the Cheadle area for over 40 years where she and her husband, Julian, raised their four children, and is now a granny to six girls. Becky has been a long-term volunteer most of her adult life. She used to run a cub pack and still runs a lively toddler group and a foodbank.
Her upbeat commercial fiction was inspired by her own Cheadle dance troupe – an eclectic mix of mature ladies. The fictional group heads to Paris for the finals of an amateur dance competition but they are carrying more baggage than just their costumes. Described as “magically heartwarming”, “sharp and engaging with a wonderful balance of humour, wit, and emotional depth” and “pacy and upfliting”, St Ann’s – as it was then – gets a mention in the book which is set against the backdrop of Cheadle and Paris.
When asked to sum up the novel, Becky says: “Think Calendar Girls meets Stepping Out – with Jazz Hands.”
Becky is delighted to have supported Moya Cole Hospice, is currently writing the follow up book.
