Grandfather and granddaughter to take on tandem bike ride in aid of hospice
The bike ride will be taking place later this month
A 15-year-old girl and her grandad are taking on a 10-mile tandem bike ride in aid of St Ann’s Hospice.
Maggie, who is partially sighted, had got into cycling when she spotted an old tandem bike in her grandad Brian’s garage. Maggie, and Brian felt it would be a great idea if the duo went on a tandem bike ride together to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice, a charity “very close” to Glenda’s heart.
“My dad was cared for in St Ann’s, and various friends of mine have been cared there,” Glenda said.
It was decided to do a fairly straight, 10-mile bike ride and try and raise a pound a mile. We’ve now raised over £800. Maggie is very excited for the fundraiser Glenda, St Ann's Hospice supporter
“She’s got the school behind her, which is great, and we’re hoping to keep raising money.”
The tandem bike that the duo will be cycling belonged to Brian’s grandad. The bike is around 74 years old.
The two will be setting off on their bike ride on Sunday, September 21.
“They’ll be setting off in the afternoon from Buxton Road,” Glenda said.
