Barbara (87) to complete final competitive run
Barbara will be completing her final run this Sunday
Barbara Thackray’s support for St Ann’s Hospice has no end. For decades, she has tirelessly fundraised for the hospice. Ten years ago when she turned 77, she took on her first competitive run. Since then, Barbara has raised over £30,000 for St Ann’s.
This September marks Barbara’s final race where she will be raising funds for St Ann’s, she is 87 after all and her weekly routine has consisted of running two 10ks a week, and she now feels it is time for her to slow down and pace herself.
Barbara will be running the Altrincham 10k this Sunday, September 7, and we at St Ann’s are gearing up support for what will be her final run.
St Ann’s staff, volunteers and supporters will be lining the streets during the Altrincham 10k to cheer Barbara on during her final race.
Barbara’s niece, Helen spoke about her aunt’s achievements and has along with her husband committed to matching the total raised by Barbara during her final run.
Barbara has been an inspiration to all of our family with her drive to support St Ann’s Hospice. I am so proud of her for the impact she’s had and the visibility she’s brought for St Ann’s - extending as far as to our family in the US. My husband Larry and I have pledged to match the total she raises in this 10K race, and we will be cheering for her as she runs! Helen, Barbara's niece
